  Prologue

  Somewhere in Nevada

  Morning sun started breaking in the horizon. In the faint morning light, Mister Lucas started his jog from his small house. There are lot of other joggers running in both direction of the road. Lucas ran in the direction of a nearby city. There are trees and parked vehicles on both sides of the road. A police car suddenly rushed in the opposite direction Lucas is running. Lucas frequently checked his smart watch for time. It’s is 6:30 AM now.

  A cold wind blew towards Lucas. Lucas rubbed his hands together and he breathed into his hands. And he increased his speed a little. A newspaper boy rushed through the road in his bicycle, waving his hands at Lucas. Lucas waved back at the newspaper boy and he continued his jog. Before long, the city came into view. There are multi-story buildings everywhere. Lucas stopped his jog in front of the usual cafeteria. Even in this early morning hour, the cafeteria is packed with people. A moment later the darkness faded away and sunlight took over the land.

  Lucas entered inside the cafeteria and he sat near a table. A waitress quickly came near Lucas.

  “Usual coffee?” Waitress asked.

  “Yes, please.” Lucas smiled at the waitress. Waitress smiled back and she disappeared behind a door. Before long, she returned with a cup of coffee. She placed the coffee in front of Lucas.

  “Anything to eat?” Waitress asked.

  “No, thanks.” Lucas said while massaging his oversized belly.

  Waitress walked away to serve other people. The cafeteria is filled with people’s chit chat, and most people are discussing things from the newspaper.

  Suddenly a loud swoosh came from nearby. Everyone stopped talking and they all listened. It’s certain that this kind of sound is not common around here. The swoosh is very loud. Some of the people on the nearby sidewalk stared at the distant sky. Lucas took the cup of coffee in his hands, and he went near the front glass wall of the cafeteria, and he peered at the sky.

  Everyone curiously stared at the distant sky. Then they saw it. Supposedly an aircraft is approaching the city from the nearby sky. This aircraft is very peculiar. It’s nothing like an aeroplane or a helicopter. It is a cube shaped thing and it have rocket propellers on all four corners. A bright blue fire is continuously coming out of the propellers. This aircraft resembles a spacecraft.

  A few moments later, the spacecraft completely came into view. People quickly started to take pictures in their cell phones. Nobody spoke a word. Everyone is in complete surprise. Suddenly the spacecraft hovered over the road in front of the cafeteria, and a moment later, it landed on the ground. A few moments later, two doors on both sides of the spacecraft fell down, forming a bridge between the space craft and the road.

  Suddenly armed men wearing face masks exited the spacecraft. They quickly opened fire at the nearby people. People screamed out loud and ran in different direction. These men are wearing a bandana in their head, and supposedly the guns they are carrying are assault rifles. Suddenly bullets rushed inside the cafeteria, breaking the glass windows and glass walls. Lucas and several others crouched down and hid under the tables. Rest of the people ran in different directions.

  Those people who exited the cafeteria through the front door quickl
y dropped dead with bullet holes. People’s scream came from everywhere. Suddenly siren of police cars came from a distance.

  Boom! Boom! Boom!

  Suddenly loud explosions came from different directions. Tears of fear uncontrollably oozed down from Lucas’ eyes. Lucas and the people nearby him don’t know what to do. They actually don’t know what the hell is happening outside. Then, all of a sudden, the gun fire stopped. Lucas went near the shattered glass wall and he peered outside. Then he saw a few armed men placing time bombs everywhere. He could clearly see the red light of the timer.

  “They are planting bombs.” Lucas worriedly said to a nearby man.

  “What? Oh, god, please save us.” One of the woman cried.

  Then a swoosh came from nearby. Lucas again peered outside. The spacecraft outside flew up and it flew away from the scene.

  “They are gone. Run for your lives.” Lucas said. Lucas stood up and ran for the front door.

  Boom!

  A nearby building exploded and it collapsed in front of the cafeteria. Lucas stopped running.

  Boom!

  Suddenly an explosive placed nearby the cafeteria exploded and Lucas got thrown away from the front door. Lucas collapsed on the floor. He slowly forced open his eyes and he peered around him. The doorway of the cafeteria completely collapsed.

  Boom! Boom! Boom!

  More explosions came. And the cafeteria collapsed to the ground. And Lucas’s world quickly ended. A few moments later silence loomed in the very air.

  Chapter 1 – Olivia

  Somewhere in Denver, A late night

  Olivia took the two plates of sea food from the counter and she walked towards a couple. She served the food and she walked towards the counter again.

  “Olivia,” Jasmine called Olivia from a nearby table. Jasmine is the owner of this restaurant.

  “Yeah?” Olivia asked.

  “You can go now. I will look after rest of the people.”

  “Okay, thanks.” Olivia smiled at Jasmine. Jasmine is also a waitress. Olivia is very thankful for having a nice boss.

  Olivia works here for part time, and rest of the time she will be either in college or in front of physics books. She love to study and her dream is to teach others.

  Olivia quickly removed her apron and she took her coat from the nearby table. She quickly left the restaurant, and before long she started her walk through the faintly lit street. There is a bar nearby and she saw several men talking and enjoying their time. She walked in front of them. Then she saw William among the group of men.

  William is her only boyfriend. And he is her mentor in physics.

  “William,” Olivia called.

  “Olivia,” William came near Olivia.

  “What were you doing?”

  “Just talking. Do you have any plans for tonight?”

  “No.” Olivia bit her lip. “And, Jenny is away with her parents.”

  “Oh, that’s something.”

  Olivia smiled and she turned towards William’s friends. “Boys, I am taking my boy from you for the rest of the night. I hope you won’t mind.”

  “Not at all. See you at college, William.” One of William’s friends said. William smiled at them and he followed Olivia.

  “It’s pretty cold tonight, right?” Olivia asked.

  “Yeah. Pretty cold.”

  Before long, Olivia and William saw Olivia’s apartment building. They increased their pace and before long they reached near Olivia’s door. Olivia quickly put the key in the key hole and she turned the knob.

  They quickly got inside and William closed the door behind him. Olivia placed her coat on top of the table in the living room and she walked towards the bedroom, slowly unbuttoning her shirt.

  Suddenly, William grabbed her right hand and he stopped her. Olivia bit her lip and then she bit the air, making a clattering sound.

  William smiled at her, and suddenly, he drew her close to him. Then he claimed her lips. They stood there for some time, exchanging hot kisses, sucking each other’s lips.

  Then, when they got tired, William lifted her from the floor and he walked towards the bedroom. Inside the bedroom, he placed her safely on the bed and he lie on top of her.

  They exchanged some quick kisses. Suddenly, the light began to flicker. Olivia impatiently looked at the bulb. Then, all of a sudden electricity went out. But, William didn’t stopped anything. He began to kiss all over her.

  “William, I think, you might not be able to see anything in the dark.”

  “I am not planning to.”

  Electricity jolted through Olivia. William claimed her whole body with kisses. A few moments later, Olivia made a high pitch moan.

  Before long, they both fell asleep.

  Chapter 2 – William

  Somewhere in Denver

  Morning light seeped in through the windows. William rubbed his eyes and he removed the covers. He then stood up. It is then he noticed that he is naked from head to toe. Suddenly Olivia giggled.

  “Please cover your private parts, William.” Olivia smiled.

  “It is not something you haven’t seen before.” William grabbed his clothes from the floor. He quickly dressed. “I will make coffee.”

  “Okay, I could use some coffee.” Olivia drew the cover further into her body and she slowly closed her eyes.

  William slowly walked towards the kitchen. Before long he placed a pot full of water on the stove and he ignited the stove. Within minutes, the water began to boil. He put some coffee powder into the pot and he waited for a few moments. Then he turned the knob on the stove and he doused the fire. He quickly poured the hot coffee into two cups. He sipped his coffee and he walked towards the bedroom with Olivia’s coffee.

  “Olivia, your coffee.”

  Olivia slowly opened her eyes. “Place it on the table.”

  William placed the cup of coffee on the table and he hurriedly sipped his coffee. Before long he finished his coffee.

  “Look, I should get back.” William said.

  “Okay, see you in the college then.” Olivia took a long yawn.

  William smiled at her and he quickly walked towards the kitchen sink. He washed the cup and placed the cup on the table. Then he went near the bedroom doorway. “See you.” William waved his hands at Olivia. Olivia waved back and she buried her head under the pillow.

  William slowly exited Olivia’s apartment. It’s then he noticed that, surrounding is extremely quiet. Usually he could hear all sort of noises in this morning hour. Also he can’t hear any sound of vehicles. Before long he exited the building and entered into the road. The road is completely empty and there are no vehicles on the road. There are several parked vehicles on the side of the road, but there aren’t anyone on the road.

  “What the hell?” William muttered.

  Then he saw it. A police car is in the middle of the road and the light on top of the car is still blinking. Then he saw bullet holes on the car’s hood and windshield. William rushed towards the police car. Then he saw a cop lying on the ground in one side of the car. He is lying upside down. And there is a puddle of blood under him.

  “Officer, are you okay?” William shook the officer. But no response came from the cop. He must be dead. William checked the cop’s hand for a pulse, but he didn’t detected any pulse. William slowly turned the cop’s body to see his face. Then he saw it. The cop’s chest is full of bullet holes and blood is still oozing down from the wounds. He quickly backed away from the dead cop.

  This must have happened in the morning, but William is certain that he didn’t heard any gun shots in the morning. William quickly fished his cell phone from his pants pocket and he dialled 911. But, the call didn’t went through. Then he saw that, there is no signal.

  “What the hell?” William quickly broke into a sprint. He should find some cops or some people. Then he stopped running. Panic sets inside him. Not far away from where he is now standing, there a
re dozens of dead bodies scattered on the road. William slowly approached the dead bodies. Blood is still oozing down from most dead bodies. And there are even children among the dead.

  William covered his mouth using his hand in shock.

  “What the?” He went a little deep into the city. Then he saw a line of vehicles. There are bullet holes everywhere on the vehicles, and hundreds of bullet shells are scattered on the road. How did he missed something big as this?

  “Olivia,” William broke into a sprint towards Olivia’s apartment.

  Chapter 3 – Edward

  Somewhere in Wyoming

  Edward slowly opened his eyes. He then looked at the bed. His wife is not on the bed. He slowly stood up. And he neatly folded the cover and he placed it on the side of the bed. He then took a long yawn. He exited the bedroom and entered into a corridor. He then opened a nearby door and he peeked inside. On two nearby beds, his kids are still asleep.

  “Jan, Jim, wake up, kids. It’s morning.”

  Jim slowly opened his eyes. “Okay, dad. I am coming.”

  Edward smiled and he walked towards the washroom. As soon as he reached there, he took his tooth brush and he applied a little tooth paste on the tooth brush. He then rinsed the tooth brush and he put it straight in his mouth. After the quick brush, he cleaned his mouth with water and he dried his face using a towel.

  Edward then quickly walked towards the kitchen.

  “Sarah, where are you, honey?” His wife is not in the kitchen. He found coffee on the table. He quickly poured some hot coffee in a cup and he slowly sipped the coffee.
